Adventures with Scottish wildlife...

As well as the dog photography and trying to fit in a few days holiday (impossible for Steve) I know he was also keen to enjoy some wildlife photography whilst in Scotland. This then helpfully leads me onto telling you firstly about the images Steve managed of some fantastically comical Red Grouse we came across.
We were very lucky whilst driving through to Tomintoul to come across not one but two pairs of Red Grouse who were both very vocal and territorial. Fortunately the female was keen to stay in our vicinity meaning the male didn't venture too far from her (wise boy). Of course this subsequently enabled Steve to be able to spend some time trying to capture the behaviour which did, I blush to tell you, involve some mating LOL. At one point the two pairs did come very close, meaning lots of posturing and noise from the males (typical ;-)) and of course the clicking of Steve's camera.
Later on in the evening as we were enjoying a picturesque drive back to our cottage we were on the lookout for Mountain Hare. After a short while we were delighted to arrive upon a lovely hillside with a good number of Hare visible. Now, at this point, it wasn't really a question of if but when Steve would venture up the hillside in pursuit of these elusive animals. I, sensibly in my opinion, remained firmly at ground level with a book and some sweets for company whilst watching Steve make his way up the afore mentioned hill. Soon he was half way up and I was half way through my chapter when I saw him drop to the ground presumably after spotting a hare or two, although it could just as easily have been because he was exhausted, ha ha. It was some 30-40 minutes later I spotted him making his way down, I must say rather slower than he went up. Needless to say when he eventually reached me there was rather a lot of puffing however lots of smiling as he explained his journey hadn't all been in vain, there apparently might be one image! I may mock but in reality I know how exciting it was for Steve and how pleased he was even if it was just one image that he managed to capture.
Our day therefore ended on a happy note and it was an enjoyable drive back to the cottage, via the pub of course!
